Simone Wijnschenk

I am a Dutch artist, fascinated by art and theatre. I have studied at the Theatre School in Amsterdam (1962-1966) and after that I have been travelling around the world for several years. Later on, I went to live in Canada and trained as an artist at Fanshawe College in London (Ontario). In 1976 I returned to the Netherlands.

As a young woman, I was fascinated by the works of matter painters like Bram Boogaard and Jaap Wagemaker. As a painter, I prefer using oil paint and mixed techniques. I have had exhibitions at various Dutch art galleries like Maya Wildevuur and Galerie Esprit. In 1990 friends introduced me to the possibilities of digital painting. I have been experimenting with digital techniques for many years, while continuing to use traditional materials.

Nowadays, the possibilities for making "digital art" are almost limitless. That is why I have decided to work exclusively in the digital domain. Yet, I still adhere to the principles of matter painting, making works that can be regarded as paintings but also as etchings or lithographs.

Lately, I started photographing patterned objects. Some of these photos are shown on this site, either as original photographs or as photo collages.
